Be Careful What You Ask For
When I started putting Social Exchanger together I wanted a simple WordPress blog that everyone could participate on rather than a complicated script. At the same time I didn’t want it to have that ‘Blog‘ look. Don’t get me wrong, I love blogging and WordPress, I just thought Social Exchanger needed a unique look.
After days of searching for just the right theme and plugins I was very happy with the results. With a few purchased images and theme tweaks I had exactly what I was looking for.
Is It Too Good?
With the help of the UBD Moneymaker Theme by Blog Hosting & Phillip van Coller and the various plugins we did such a nice job that it’s apparently hard to believe that it’s actually a blog, to a few anyway.

When we submitted Social Exchanger to BlogCatalog for inclusion to their directory and we were declined…

The URL you submitted is not a blog
To BlogCatalog’s credit, once we replied asking them to take another look beyond the front page they reversed the decision within two days. Two days is very quick for a site that size.
Example Two
We are in the middle of the second example now. I have three blogs on Entrecard and one of them is Social Exchanger. I’m not sure if it was from an audit or perhaps someone reported our site without research but this is what I received from Entrecard two days ago…
Your Entrecard account has been deleted
Your account ‘Social Exchanger’ on entrecard.com has been deleted. The administrator gave the following reason:
Sorry, this site is not a blog .
I’m hoping that Entrecard will be as reasonable and as quick as BlogCatalog was to re-activate our site’s status. We’re near the end of a weekend right now so it’s understandable why we haven’t had a response yet.

My mother always said, “Be careful what you ask for“, and as usual she was right. We wanted a blog that didn’t look like a blog so that’s what we got. We’re going to keep our stealthy look for now and hopefully the site will gain enough popularity that we won’t be judged by our looks – just joking
